THE IMPACT OF “FUN CULTURE” ON MODERN SOCIETY

INTRODUCTION:
The continues wind of modernity blowing across the desert mind of our society has given rise to worldwide revolution in the perception of moral values in recent years; involving the way people think, speak and act. Indecency and lots of promiscuity has become the order of the day, where immorality act is branded as ‘having fun.’ The growing child approaching teenage becomes entrapped by technology; scientific products which reduce the ability of the child in performing in intellectual activities. Important questions worth considering here are: does technological growth inform or deform? Is the idea of fun seeking in the 21st century promoting the dignity of human life? What is the value of sex to the morality of our time? The above questions have become imperative in order to diagnose the 21st century embrace to fun culture.

FUN CULTURE ON MODERN SOCIETY
Fun has been defined as pleasure and amusement, while culture is seen by the Webster Dictionary as the training of the mind. To make a synthesis of these two concepts will therefore mean the development of the mind towards pleasure and amusement. This synthesis appeals directly to the principle of Hedonism by the Epicureans. I shall buttress this a little further; Hedonism is the teaching that pleasure is the only good. Plato had denied that good life had nothing to do with pleasure; Aristotle felt that pleasure must make some contribution to happiness. However, Epicurus’ teachings deal mostly with how to live modestly but with pleasure. If you seek pleasure in an extreme way, you will without doubt cause pain.
Pleasure (fun) seeking has constituted a major cankerworm that has eaten up the better part of our society. Among the fun seeking disorders that make part of our society, confusing people and leading them astray, is a misunderstanding of human sexuality rooted in deep misunderstanding of the human person and human body. Often these misconceptions have made others to repudiate the bodily nature of the human person, seeing a human being as a ghost in the machine, a spirit or mind lodged in a material body.
There is therefore the drive towards feelings that is seen satisfying in sex and other promiscuous activities in our digital era, where the human dignity is seen as nothing but a machine towards satisfying an immoral act termed fun. The meaning of human sexuality have been greatly fashioned, it is now seen as toy for fun and not as a gift from God. Indecency in dressing and sex appealing films continue to be in rise questioning the notion of moral norms.

THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY TO FUN CULTURE
The rise of technology too has posed a lot of challenges too to the society, some of which are visible and obvious others in contrast have been immensely influential in a very subtle way. The global world expands daily and new gadgets comes into being, increasing the standard of living and means of communicating or passing of information. The big question again is; what type of information is obtained from these media? The ownership of these technologies have become an everyman business, gone is the age of one radio per family, one television and one sitting room, the radio programmes had to have family appeal. Now the information can reach the youth without passing through the family and with rising standards of house rooms, youths can enjoy their interests in private.
The growth of these technologies like phones, laptops, Ipad and so on, supposed to inform the youth, but in the contrary majority of the youth in our society are deformed by these. Some of the internet sites which these gadgets get information from is continuously fed with pornographies that craft away idle minds. 'Pornography is not only violation of the spiritual diginty and morality of conscience but also a violation of sacred human values in front of a growing laxity of modern media". The word pornography itself is derived from the Greek word 'porno' and 'graphia' meaning depictions of the activities of whore or prostituties and their patron. In ordinary language it means "materials that is predominantly sexually explicit and intended primarily for the purpose of sexually arousal". The sexual arousal can be a source of anxiety and a threat to security; it slumbers; only dimly realise, in the depth of the individual or is awakened through a relationship with another of the opposite sex. It is a mystery and a problem urging itself upon the individual who feel impelled to explore its true meaning and explain its relationship to itself, curiosity emerge. Young people will often not shrink from 'trying things out' in sexual way; then we get actual intercourse. Sexual curiosity in itself is a natural thing, but such crass behaviour as suggested, with its gross violation of modesty, indicates a deploration lack of that sense of shame which shouuld act as a barrier, defending what is in reality a holy thing'.

THE WAY FORWARD
The way forward is forward itself said the Nigerian comedian Gordons. Considering the mayhem that fun culture have caused in the society, the first soltion that could be advocated is proper education of the youth. The kind of education required here is proper or good sex education. A wrong sex education grive rise to a wrong attitude towards sex and to the body in general, and hinders specific task of man and woman and their entire development. The consequences are often serious damage to married life. It is the task of sex education to preserve and create a harmonious state of body and oul or if lost, to restore it. When a child as a result of erroneous teaching, comes to despise his/her body and to adapt to a negative attitude towards its physical nature, it has learned to reject its own true humanity and the consequences will be devastating.
Another way out is cenorship on the way information is fed into the media. The way information's are placed into the m edia does not make way for age-long determinism. Appealing to the three agruments emplyed by the conservation in favour of censorship to the publication of immoral iomages in the net: first, they simoly hold that pornography is immoral or evil, irrespective of ill consquences ehich mayn follow from it. Second, they sometiomes assert that, irrespective of its mlorality, a practice which most people in community find abhorrent and disgusting maybe rightly supposed. Finally, they contend that pornography promoted or leads to certains kinds of socially harmful attitudes/or behaviour.

CONCLUSION
The plethroa of immorality eating away the sense of humanity in our nation is in continuous rise. The bead to meet with the western world poses a lot of threat to the sense of sacredness in our modern world. As dicussed above, fun culture repudiate and eschew the real meaning of sex which is a gift from God designed only for the married; modern technology too on the other hand has fuelled the passion in the hearts of the youth and adult creating an avenue to explore or to try out what is burning in their hearts. however this problem could be solved if the way forward offered could rightly be employed.
